Our story
A Capital Region tradition since 1973
2026 marks the 54th annual Sportsmart, run by the Scouts and families of Scouting America Troop 75 in Delmar.
The Saturday before Thanksgiving
For more than five decades, local families have marked the start of winter the same way: dig the outgrown skis, skates and boots out of the garage, bring them to Sportsmart in the morning, and come back in the afternoon to find the next size up.
In the 1990s, ads in Delmar’s Spotlight newspaper billed Sportsmart as the “Area’s Largest Exchange of New and Used Sporting Equipment.” Skis and skates are still at its heart, but today’s sale also fills the Bethlehem Central High School cafeteria with bikes, golf clubs, lacrosse and hockey gear, exercise equipment and winter outerwear.
The pandemic moved the sale out of the high school for two years. In 2022 it came home to Bethlehem Central for its 50th annual sale, and thousands of shoppers came through the doors.
Run by Scouts
Sportsmart is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Scouting America Troop 75, a Scout troop based in Delmar. Scouts and their families run the day, from checking in gear in the morning to running the chuck wagon. The money raised supports the troop’s camping and outdoor program.
Giving back
The suggested $1 entry donation goes to a charity chosen by the Scouts. Over the years it has supported the Ronald McDonald House, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and many others. Recently:
- 2025: Mohawk Hudson Humane Society
- 2024: South End Children's Café
Thank you, silent auction donors
Local businesses and groups make the silent auction one of the most popular tables at Sportsmart. Thank you to everyone who has donated in recent years, and to the Troop 75 families who donate too.
