FAQ
Questions & answers
When is Sportsmart?
Every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. In 2026 that’s Saturday, November 21, 2026, with the public sale from 1–4 p.m. and drop-off for sellers from 8:30–11 a.m. that morning.
Where is it?
In the cafeteria at Bethlehem Central High School, 700 Delaware Avenue, Delmar, NY 12054.
Where do I park?
Park and enter on the cafeteria side of the school.
Do I have to live in Delmar?
Not at all. Everyone is welcome to shop and sell, whether you live in Delmar or anywhere else in the Capital Region.
Does it cost anything to get in?
Entry is free. We suggest a $1 donation at the door, which goes to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.
When should I get there?
The doors open at 1 p.m., and a line usually forms before then. Some shoppers arrive around noon and grab lunch from the chuck wagon while they wait.
How can I pay?
Cash, Check, Credit card. There is a $10 minimum for card purchases.
What can I buy?
Skis, snowboards, ski and snowboard boots, snowshoes, ice skates, hockey and lacrosse gear, baseball and softball gear, soccer and tennis gear, bikes, golf clubs, exercise equipment, helmets and winter outerwear, plus new and used gear from Play It Again Sports. What’s for sale depends on what the community brings that morning.
Is it just ski and winter gear?
No. Winter gear is the biggest draw because the sale comes right before ski season, but you can buy and sell gear for every sport: bikes, golf, lacrosse, baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, exercise equipment and more. Not sure about an item? Ask us before sale day.
Can I try things on?
Yes, and volunteers can help with sizing. Bring the kids so boots, skates and helmets fit.
Are all sales final?
Yes. Check sizes and condition before you buy.
How do I sell my gear?
Bring it to the sale during drop-off, 8:30–11 a.m. the morning of the sale. You fill out a seller form and set your prices, and volunteers tag your items. If an item sells, you’re paid by check, minus a 35% commission that supports the troop. There’s no fee to consign and no limit on how many items you bring. See the Sell or Donate page for details.
What if I can’t come back for pick-up?
We mail your check to the address on your seller form. Items that aren’t picked up are donated or discarded, so plan to collect anything that doesn’t sell. If you’d rather have unsold items donated, tick the box on your seller form.
Is there anything you don’t accept?
If you wouldn’t buy it at a store or a garage sale, please leave it at home. That includes broken gear, furniture and anything that would sell for less than $2.
Can I donate gear instead?
Yes. Bring it during drop-off hours. Donated gear is sold to support Troop 75’s camping and outdoor program. Anything that doesn’t sell is saved for a future sale or given to charity, and the rest is disposed of. You can get a receipt for your taxes.
Can I drop off gear before sale day?
Please bring it during drop-off on sale morning if you can, because we have very little storage. If that won’t work, contact us and we’ll try to arrange something.
Who runs Sportsmart, and where does the money go?
Sportsmart is run by the Scouts and families of Scouting America Troop 75 in Delmar. It is the troop’s biggest fundraiser and supports the troop’s camping and outdoor program.
Is there food?
Yes. The troop’s chuck wagon sells burgers, hot dogs, chips and soda during the sale. There’s also a silent auction, and live music by 75 Live, a group of musicians from Troop 75.
How does the silent auction work?
Bid on the sheets at the auction tables during the sale. Bidding closes at 4 p.m., and winners pay by credit card.
My business would like to donate to the silent auction. Who do I contact?
Thank you! Use the contact form and choose “Silent auction or sponsorship,” and a volunteer will follow up.
